David Fels
Director of Lakeside Country Club
I was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1965. My family and I lived in many different cities during my childhood. Ultimately, we settled in Vicksburg, Mississippi. I attended high school in Vicksburg and upon graduation I moved to Monroe Louisiana and attended Northeast Louisiana University on a Golf Scholarship.

After attending Northeast Louisiana University for two years, the school ultimately decided to end the golf program. At that point I immediately enlisted in the U. S. Army. I was assigned as a Driver/Gunnar on Bradley Fighting Vehicles and then transferred to M1A1 Abrams Tanks for the remainder of my enlistment. Soon after the army, I completed my education at Mississippi State University and graduated with a Professional Golf Management degree. During my years at Mississippi State University, I met and married my wife, Paula. Paula and I have been married 29 years and have two amazing daughters. Lauren, our oldest, is an elementary school teacher in Salt Lake City, Utah. Sarah our youngest is a Junior at N.C. State University. They are both doing great, and we are very proud parents. Upon my graduation from Mississippi State University, I worked towards my PGA membership for three years and I have now been a PGA member for 27 years. I have been on the staff here at Lakeside Country Club.
Johnson
Golf Course Superintendent
Houston Johnson is the Golf Course Superintendent. He is a 2012 graduate of Clemson University, where he earned a degree in Turfgrass with a minor in Horticulture and Business Management. With a strong foundation in both the science and business of land management, he brings a well-rounded perspective to his professional work.

Outside of his career, Houston is deeply rooted in family traditions at his family’s ranch in Clinton, where they raise beef cattle and Quarter Horses. He enjoys spending his free time riding horses and exploring the outdoors through hiking.
An avid outdoor enthusiast, Houston has completed over 70 miles of the Appalachian Trail alongside his chocolate merle Border Collie, reflecting his passion for adventure and connection with nature.

We also offer private lessons for juniors who want more personalized instruction and focused improvement. In addition, private lessons are available for adults looking to learn the game, refine their technique, or take their skills to the next level.
